Frequently asked questions

General

We have a full car park out the front so you can pull right up front to come in. If the car park is full (which is rare), 2 houses down is the ‘First Choice’ car park where you can pull in and walk down.
Included in the price of our prints and wall portraits is a copy of the file. So any prints you get are accompanied with the same image on disk; which means you will get the beautifully art worked photograph finished to the same standard as your art print. Obviously the quality of the print is very different from what you could do at home, however, we have found our clients like to have the disk as security in the future, but display the custom prints we are renowned for!
Have a look at our ‘Price Guide’ section to get an idea of what we can do for you.
We can add hair and makeup styling to any photography shoot you like. Our artist charges $100 and specializes in makeup for studio lighting, as it is a little different to normal lighting. If you like, she can add fake lashes (just mention it when booking in) give you a glamorous siren look or something more natural.

babies

– A drink (milk for babies)
– A snack – but nothing too sugary!
– A favourite toy to entertain them in case they are not in all the photographs
– Anything personal and meaningful to possibly add in, such as a hand knitted blanket or a toy gift from an older sibling; all that would make the photograph more individual and special for your little one when they are older.
– The clothing we have figured out with you
We suggest getting here about 5 mins before your session starts. This allows time for you to give your little one a top up feed and all going well, have a cappuccino!
All sessions are booked in for about 1 hour. There is plenty of time for different combinations you may like, such as everyone together, your newest addition by themselves and in different outfits. As with most babies, they are quite unpredictable, so there are plenty of moments for a top up feed or nappy change, as well as a few different outfits if this is what you had in mind.
At the end of the session, we will make a time to come back into the studio; roughly a week later, (this can be sooner if you need something in a rush) to have a look at all the photographs in our custom-built home theatre style viewing rooms, and order whatever you like from the shoot.
We are not high-pressure sales people. Whatever you feel comfortable getting is completely up to you, whether it be 1 or 2 smaller prints or various portraits (we do offer discount for larger orders).
If you would like wide awake and smiling photographs, we usually try to get babies in the 1st appointment of the day at 10/10.30am. Coming in the afternoon after a nap can sometimes be risky as it is very dependent on how much sleep they have had. In our experience (and most parents!) children are better and more agreeable in the morning- especially just after a feed, but it is your call as to what works best for you and your child.

If you would like sleeping, wrapped up photographs, the opposite is true! Keeping them in their routine is the name of the game here. Whenever is their normal nap time is when we will book you in. Otherwise we are fighting a losing battle! Any wrapped photography your little one needs to be asleep, otherwise they wiggle out.

Yes! We regularly get new blankets, head bands and wraps so you have plenty of looks to choose from. When you book in will email you some ideas of what we have here. If there is anything you had in mind please let us know and we will do our best to make it happen for you!
Yes, absolutely! We think it is really important for a babies parents and even grand parents to be in some photographs. Just let us know when you book in that you would like some and we can let you know what to wear

Generational

Anyone and everyone in your family! It is very popular for the adult children to put in and get a generational shoot for their parents Silver or Gold anniversary; so by that point in their life there are normally quite a few members to include… the more the merrier!
It is better to try and co ordinate as much as possible so that your faces are the main focus of the photograph; rather than a whole bunch of patterns and colours. We know this tricky sometimes, but if everyone could try and come in either the agreed all lighter tones or all darker tones it makes for a fantastic shot; that way no one person is standing out more so than another (the birthday person or grandparents if it is their anniversary may be a good exception to this!)

You will see the difference in our Generational Gallery and some families who have done this really well.

While it is certainly worth the effort to get a timeless photograph of your family, the lead up to the shoot and trying to fit in with everyone and their busy lives can be the hardest part!
One family member usually takes charge of contacting us at the studio to get 2/3 times and dates we are available and then goes back to the family to see when suits everyone.

Quite often the shoot is booked in several weeks in advance so there is plenty of time for people to rearrange a commitment so they can come in.

Also, we are actually more than happy to liaise with everyone on your behalf to take the time and stress out of it, so just ask!

The studio session can be up to 1 hour with your photographer, so there is plenty of time to capture your whole big family and any other combinations you or anyone else would like while you are here. Other families like to do everyone together, then break down into their smaller family groups and then each child and couple.

At the end of your photography shoot we will make a time to come back in about 1 week later to view all your photographs and choose what you would like to get from there. There is no minimum purchase or pressure to buy anything in particular, we just rely on the fact you will love the shots!
If there are a few of you that would like to come back in to look at the photographs, we will try and find a date that suits everyone; otherwise you can come in separately.

families

– The clothing and any changes we have figured out with you
– Any extra clothing options
– Makeup if your need any touch ups eg. lip stick
– Any accessories that you love, like a nice necklace or scarf to add your own flair
– Your extra furry family member (your family pet) if we have spoken about it

With younger kids…
– A drink, of course, we have water for them here too!
– A snack – but nothing too sugary!
– A favourite toy to entertain them in case they are not in all the photographs

We know this can be easier said than done, but if everyone could try and come in either the agreed all lighter tones or all darker tones it makes for a fantastic shot; that way no one person is standing out more so than another. At the end of the day however, if you are all happy with the combinations then we are happy!
We suggest getting here about 5 mins before your session starts. This allows time for the kids to get used to their surroundings, get changed into their good clothes (many parents bring the kids in everyday clothes in case they get dirty in the car); and all going well, have a cappuccino!
All sessions are booked in for about 1 hour with your photographer. There is plenty of time for any different combinations you like, such as the whole family together, just the kids and just the parents etc; as well as a change of outfits for a different look and feel. We also like everyone to relax and actually enjoy the shoot! We have a great repertoire of bad day jokes and ways to loosen up so your expressions are natural.
At the end of the session, we will make a time to come back into the studio; roughly a week later, (this can be sooner if you need something in a rush) to have a look at all the photographs in our custom-built home theatre style viewing rooms, and order whatever you like from the shoot.

This is very much you to you and what works for you and your family. Families with older kids (10+ years) usually have lots of extra curricular events to go to as well as work during the week, so many families book in on a Saturday morning.
Younger families (-10 years) quite often try for our first appointments around 10/10:30am when everyone is still happier and not getting tired in the afternoon.

You know your family best though – so just think when everyone is usually their happiest and we will try for then!

Kids

– A snack – but nothing too sugary!
– A favourite toy to entertain them in case they are not in all the photographs
– The clothing and any changes we have figured out with you
This is a very open question with a very open answer! When you book in your shoot we will discuss this with you. Everyone has a different idea as to what they like the look of, so we will guide you as to what style you like.
The one constant with any style it to keep patterns (check, stripes etc) to a minimum, as well as logos or big ‘Bob the Builder or Dora the Explorer’ images. The main reason for having the photographs taken is to take in the details in the face and body. If there is lots of distracting things in there you will be looking at that, rather than their beautiful eyes!
This is particularly important if you have a couple of kids together, then co-ordinating is a really good idea.

For older aged families (10+ years) any time of the day convenient for you is fine. As most people need to schedule a time around work, we are also open Saturday and out of ours for flexibility – just ask us if you have a special time in mind.
For younger families (-10 years) we suggest to try earlier in the morning, as most kids are generally happier then. If you have school aged children, we can always do a Saturday morning.

pregnancy

We suggest getting here about 5 mins before your session starts. This allows time for you to relax on the couch and all going well, have a latte! If you aren’t having any caffeine, we have a yummy selection of herbal teas you can sip on too.
All sessions are booked in for about 1 hour with your photographer. There is plenty of time for any clothed look or a wrapped cocoon and anything else you may like. If you would like your partner or kids to be involved in the shoot they are more than welcome too!
Have a look at our gallery to see how some other expectant mothers have styled their shoot with us.
At the end of the session, we will make a time to come back into the studio; roughly a week later, (depending on your due date this can be sooner) to have a look at all the photographs in our custom-built home theatre style viewing rooms, and order whatever you like from the shoot.
If you would feel more comfortable to stay fully clothed then some stretch jeans or dark maxi skirt and a tight tank top look great. With a tight top on you will really be able to see your beautiful bump in all its glory!
A wrapped cocoon photograph is a really beautiful wholesome look. For this, just have on skin coloured underwear and when we wrap you, just slide your top and bra off.

We are really mindful of you being comfortable at all times, so our female photographer Vanessa, can work with you in the studio if you are more comfortable.

If you are doing cocoon wrapped photographs…
– A bath robe for in between shots
– Nude coloured underwear
– Any clothing we have spoken about before the shoot

If you don’t want to do a wrapped image…
– A dark maxi skirt or stretchy jeans
– White button up shirt and/or tight tank top

The time of the day does not matter… but the time in your pregnancy does!

If you are hoping for a natural birth, we suggest 3-4 weeks before you are due. This way you will be pretty close to as big as you will get, but if your little bundle is earlier than expected you still have the shots – we can’t go back and shoot it afterwards!

If you are planning on a c-section then 2-3 weeks is fine to come in.

couples

– Your lovingly gaze for each other
– Any clothing options
– Makeup if your need any touch ups e.g. lip stick
– Any accessories that you love, like a nice necklace or scarf to add your own flair
We suggest to wear your makeup a little heavier than you would usually in the day time. Studio lights are very strong, so wearing a bit more blush and a darker lip always shows your features more than really natural makeup.

If you are someone who rarely wears make up and would feel more comfortable wearing minimal makeup, then please do so, as in the photography it wont show up much at all.

Your hair can be what ever you like! Smooth and straight, glamorous and wavy or completely natural and in its own zone. Style it anyway you like it best and makes you feel good!

Of course, we can take all the stress out of this for you and organise our hair and makeup artist to pamper you, so you can relax and have a glass of champagne! Let us know when you book in what you would like.

Normally 2-3 outfits are a great place to start. Something casual like jeans and a nice top, something you would go out to a relaxed dinner in and then a dressy outfit you look a million dollars in!

With all your outfits, try and keep the patterns to a minimum as they can sometime clash and you end up looking at all the patterns rather than your faces.

We suggest getting here about 5 mins before your session starts. This allows time for you to relax on the couch and leave the day behind you with a latte or wine! Also, if you came in comfortable clothes you are more than welcome to get changed here.
All sessions are booked in for about 1 hour with your photographer. There is plenty of time for any different combinations you would like, such as you both together and individually too. Of course, we can use your different outfits and looks on different backgrounds for a large variety of photographs to choose from afterwards.
At the end of the session, we will make a time to come back into the studio; roughly a week later, (this can be sooner if you need something in a rush) to have a look at all the photographs in our custom-built home theatre style viewing rooms, and order whatever you like from the shoot.

Yes, we do! Some of our couples like to do some clothed, beautiful portraits first for their living rooms and family; then some for just themselves. Let us know when you call up what you are thinking of doing and we can talk you through everything, as it is a little different and even more than a standard shoot!
We don’t have any photographs on our website as it is something very personal for each couple but it is certainly something we love to create!

allure

– Confident attitude (don’t worry, if you don’t come in with it you will sure leave with it!)
– The clothing we talk about before your shoot
– Any nice scarves, hats or jewellery which can add something even more personal to the shoot
– Your clean face with no makeup on for a blank canvas
We suggest to bring in something you might go out at night in, which is a bit more dressy; something you would go to lunch in which is a dressy casual and something else you just love and feel your best and most fabulous in!

Accessories also tend to add another element to the photograph and styling so feel free to bring some in as well. Another little detail is that your hands will more than likely be in a couple of the shots, so either treat yourself to a manicure or take off any old and chipped nail polish.

Feel free to get to the studio around 5 minutes early so you can chill out and have a latte or glass of bubbles!

We will then introduce you to your stylist, where you can chat with her and your photographer about what sort of look you are going for; whether it be dramatic, romantic or natural, they can make it happen for you! It takes around 1 hour for her to work her magic on you.

Then it is through to the studio, where over the next hour we will shoot several different looks, outfits and composed images so you have heaps of fun; our goal is for you to leave the studio feeling a million dollars. We also HIGHLY suggest organising to go out on the town or to a nice dinner while you are all made up!

At the end of the shoot, we will make a time to come back into the studio about 1 week later and choose what you would like to get.

We can book you in anytime that is convenient for you, just keep in mind how long the shoot goes for so you can enjoy it and not rush! The hair and makeup styling takes around 1 hour and the studio shoot goes for roughly 1 hour as well.

pets

– Treats
– A favourite squeaky toy
– Their bed or blanket if it helps them feel comfortable
– Lead
– Clothing for yourselves
Absolutely! We have had snakes, lizards, rabbits, cats and even an owl in here! As long as they are under control, they are more than welcome.
Pet sessions are one of our favourites to shoot. As you can see from the ‘Our Team’ section, we have animals in here all the time! We suggest getting here about 5 mins before your session starts. This allows time for you and your pet to have a wander around the garden out the front for any last minute pit-stops and all going well, have a latte for you!
All sessions are booked in for about 1 hour with your photographer. There is plenty of time for any different combinations you like, such as the whole family together, just your pet by themselves and anything else you can think of. There is also time for a change of clothes for yourself for a different look and feel.

Make sure you have a lead or pet carrier for them as they may not be in all of the photographs and if there are any kids here at the same time, their parents are usually happier if they are under control.

There is no carpet here in the studio because accidents frequently happen – from babies, not just pets! So if they do go inside, don’t worry! We have paper towel and hard surfaces so other than a little temporary smell, there is nothing to lose sleep over.

There is a garden out the front so most of the time they do their business out there no problem.
